New to Diving

If you haven't dived before we have plenty of instructors to get you up to speed. We run full courses every year, and try dives so you can have a taste before fully committing. The initial qualification is BSAC Ocean Diver, which is equivalent to PADI Open Water diver, and BSAC qualifications are highly regarded the world over for their high standards and quality instruction.

7 Seas Divers are a non-profit organisation run by members, and the instructors all teach on a voluntary basis. We do it for the love of diving and not for any commercial gains, so you get our full attention and are not rushed through the course and sent out to dive before being fully prepared. We are open and welcoming, so you'll make new friends quickly and get all the benefits of being in a lively and active dive club. These include advice from other experienced divers, use of the club boat (it goes out most weekends), use of the pool for practicing skills or just going for a swim, club trips, a full range of regularly serviced kit for hire, and further training.

What to expect

We start in the pool where we introduce you to the experience of breathing underwater. We take you step by step through all the skills you'll need for the entry level diver qualification of Ocean Diver. The pool lessons typically run over a period of 5 weeks. Around the same time we'll conduct the class room lessons, which usually take place on a Saturday or Sunday morning. There are a couple of 4 hour sessions, with breaks where you can chat with the instructors, or take some refreshments. Once the pool lessons are complete, we take you to open water. This usually starts at an inland dive site, with a shallow dive to get you used to the new environment. There are 5 dives in all and they consist of a mixture of inland venues and diving from club boat, weather permitting.

Further Training

Once you have completed your initial training, we offer further courses including Sports Diver, which enables you to go a bit deeper and do decompression stops , Dive Leader, boat handler and others. You can even go down the route of becoming an instructor yourself.
